Days of Summer: 3
Japanese food, one of the good things in life.
A steaming hot bowl of miso soup with lots of assorted sushi, salmon sashimi and soft-shell crab tempura, and some custard dorayaki to top it all off makes for a delicious Sunday dinner with J somewhere on Hanover Street amongst calligraphy’d paper lanterns, cherry blossom-motif sauce plates and gold-tipped chopsticks.
I’m an epicurean of sorts, and Japanese food has always been an absolute favourite of mine since I was a little girl, which brings me back to the time when my parents would bring me to this quaint Japanese restaurant in KL on weekends called Moritomo: it introduced me to tatami rooms with shoji sliding doors, kneeling barefeet for dinner and the wonders of cold soba with nori seaweed, sweetened soy sauce and a raw quail egg on a bamboo tray called zaru. I loved it all and I’ve been hooked ever since, so it comes as no surprise I tend to look for Japanese food wherever I go, regardless of where I am.
..and I know I’m definitely going to load up on a whole lot it when I’m back in KL!
